Primary Health Care

Building robust primary health care across rural Africa is crucial for averting preventable mortality, economic shocks that push households into poverty, promoting health equality and ultimately achieving healthcare access for all.

Primary healthcare is essential to realizing universal health coverage across Africa. As the most basic level of the healthcare system, encompassing services like health promotion, routine check-ups, immunizations, maternal care and health education, primary healthcare tackles the predominant health challenges for many rural and low-income populations.

For universal healthcare to reach underserved groups, African countries must invest in community-based primary care with affordable fees, health insurance to offset fees, ensure essential medicines are stocked, and use technologies to improve service delivery and bridge access gaps.
