LDRI and GODAN to Collaborate on Supporting Improvements to Open Data for Agriculture and Nutrition in Africa.

 

Nairobi, Kenya,  August 20th, 2019Local Development Research Institute (LDRI) a not-for-profit action-oriented think tank, signed a Memorandum of Understanding  (MOU) with the Global Open Data for Agriculture and Nutrition (GODAN). Through their collaboration, the two organisations will work to strengthen the availability, use and sharing of open data as part of the evidence useful in efforts to improve food and nutrition security in Africa. 

The collaboration will include carrying out research and advocacy to influence increased access to open data in agriculture and nutrition, co-convening workshops and events designed to build capacity in African governments and strengthening open data ecosystems to support African Union countries in making evidence-informed decisions to boost food and nutrition security.

“We are delighted to sign this MOU with GODAN to ensure that we are able to support the efforts of African governments in making evidence-informed policies in agriculture and nutrition driven by open data,” said Muchiri Nyaggah, Chief Executive Officer of LDRI. 

According to the MOU, LDRI and GODAN shall design and implement projects and programs to strengthen evidence-informed decision making to ensure that African governments and their smallholder farmers can boost productivity and strengthen food and nutrition security. The partnership shall support efforts to provide an enabling environment, build capacity through human capital development initiatives in governments and secure sustainable financing for open data for development in Africa.
